As is the case every week that the NFL plays games, Super Bowl LVIII was no different when it came to calls that the league is rigged. Only this time we have a former NFL player claiming it.
The fact that the Kansas City Chiefs won, which meant the league could tie itself even tighter to one of the biggest pop stars in the world, Taylor Swift, certainly didn’t help quell the conspiracy theorists.
After the game, those conspiracies gained even more steam when Will Compton, who played linebacker in the NFL for nine seasons for five teams, added to the tin-foil hattery.
“NFL is basically the WWE now,”
“It’s all for entertainment & honestly I don’t even know why I watch & care so much. It’s all fake.”
Will Compton was far from alone in this #NFLRigged discourse.
Of course, this claim by Will Compton is nothing new. Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has claimed the NFL is rigged for years.
Even former Hall of Famer player Bubba Smith claimed Super Bowl III when his Baltimore Colts were upset by Joe Namath and the New York Jets in the game the basically made the Super Bowl what it is today, was fixed.
Former NFL star and actor Bubba Smith spoke about Super Bowl III being rigged before his death.

The Colts were the biggest favorite in Super Bowl history entering that game.
“I, personally, think the game was fixed,” Smith said in 2002 before passing away in 2011.
He claims that it was rigged in an effort to push the NFL to become as big as it is today.
“If the Jets don’t win that game then they don’t have the NFL the way it is today,” Smith explained. “It was the merger…”
“If you remember, we were inside the 20 five times in the first half,” he continued. “and came away with no points. Which is not a characteristic of a Colt team.”
Smith then claimed that the Colts quarterback Earl Morrall (who went 13–1 in the regular season and was the league MVP, then was benched in the game after going 6-17 with 3 interceptions) was in on it.
Food for thought, huh? It certainly is to some people, and not just Will Compton.
