Bench Warmer Chennedy Carter Welcomed With Standing Ovation By Sky Fans After Caitlin Clark Controversy

Chennedy Carter appeared in her first game since the incident with Caitlin Clark during Tuesday’s loss to the New York Liberty and received a standing ovation from Chicago Sky fans.

The widespread applause was presumably for her role in bullying Caitlin Clark because she certainly isn’t spending enough time on the court these days to warrant a standing ovation, averaging just 19.

1 minutes per game so far this season and only 20.9 minutes per game throughout the 59 WNBA games of her career.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the sparsely populated seats in this game compared to when Chennedy Carter‘s Chicago Sky played Caitlin Clark who has become the biggest attraction in the WNBA, but don’t let that take away from the standing ovation she receives from fans after bullying Caitlin Clark:

Carter is at least averaging 12.5 points in her 19 minutes/game this season, so she is making decent use of her time on the court, but the fact that she’s become a flashy name in WNBA headlines despite being the 3rd best/worse guard on her team is confounding.

For those just catching up on the saga (video above), it began with a dirty foul on Clark away from the ball. Carter’s coach later threw Chennedy under the bus for her actions, and Chennedy then doubled down on her actions.

As for the standing ovation from fans applauding her for bullying Caitlin Clark, honestly, you love to see it. Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever teammates need to step up BIG TIME and protect the star. Even if it requires signing a good/enforcer to protect Caitlin Clark on the court they need to do it ASAP.

At the same time, the other WNBA franchise playing up these tiny rivalries is incredible for the growth of the sport. The WWE-ification of the sport with ‘heels’ like Chennedy Carter will fill seats and in turn get everyone paid more.
