Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis is normally the home of the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts.
It has also been the home of the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four, Monster Jam, Monster Energy Supercross, and, coming soon, Taylor Swift on her Eras tour.
But before all of the Swifties can descend on Lucas Oil Stadium, there will be the 2024 United States Swimming Olympic Trials.
The big swim meet will take place from June 15 to June 23 and it will be the first time the event has ever been held on a football field.
Three temporary pools – two 50-meter pools and one 25-meter pool – have been installed over the field. That means there is now more 5.5 million pounds of water sitting on the same field that Jonathan Taylor, Anthony Richardson, and company will be playing on come this fall.
Last month we got a sneak peek at some of the construction that was taking place to create such an unusual transformation from football field to swimming pools.
Now, with construction complete, the Indianapolis Colts X (Twitter) account has shared a rather incredible video of their “new pool.”

Colts mascot Blue also got in on the action, taking a dip in the new addition to Lucas Oil Field.

In a striking coincidence, Indianapolis also hosted the United States Swimming Olympic Trials in 1924 when that Olympic team also competed in Paris, the same location as this year’s Olympic Games, which begin on July 26.
Needless to say, fans were very impressed (and, as always, had jokes).

Think it’s pretty cool now? Wait until 30,000 people are packed into Lucas Oil Stadium while the swimming events are taking place. What an amazing place to compete. Plus, all the competitors will later be able to say that they swam on the same field Peyton Manning played!
