The nature of law enforcement means you never really know what you’re going to encounter during a typical day on the job, and people who make a living being dispatched to solve various problems go into every situation knowing there are plenty of hazards they run the risk of having to deal with.
That’s especially true when the problem in question involves an eviction, as there aren’t many scenarios where people who are tasked with removing someone from a home or property are going to be welcomed with open arms.
As a result, you have to imagine the sheriff’s deputies who were sent to serve a notice in Longmeadow, Massachusetts earlier this month were prepared to encounter some resistance when they arrived at a dwelling on Memery Lane on October 12th.
However, I find it very hard to believe they ever could’ve anticipated the particular form of pushback they were subjected to courtesy of a protester who deployed a wild tactic to attempt to interfere with the proceedings.
A woman was arrested for using a swarm of bees to attempt to thwart deputies handling an eviction in Massachusetts
According to NBC10, the officials in question were attempting to serve the notice when a woman identified as Rorie Susan Woods rolled up in an SUV hauling a flatbed filled with wooden beehives home to the apian minions she attempted to sic on the deputies after arriving on the scene.
Authorities say a deputy was forced to retreat when a swarm attacked him when he approach the vehicle before Woods tipped over a hive to escalate the situation even further (a police report filed after the incident notes she also said “Oh, you’re allergic? Good” after being informed “several officers” were at high risk of going into shock if they were stung).
Woods—who police painted as a pro-tenant protester—eventually donned a beekeeping suit to transport one of the hives to the front of the home at the center of the eviction before she was ultimately arrested and charged with a number of different crimes, including “four counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, three counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon and one count of disorderly conduct.”
