When the #1 seed Kansas City Chiefs take the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, they’ll be playing for the chance to play in their fifth straight AFC Championship game.
It’s been a remarkable half-decade for the Chiefs, who’ve established themselves as one of the league’s premier franchises thanks to the dominance of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the genius of head coach Andy Reid.
Now having been in Kansas City for a decade, the 64-year-old Reid has undoubtedly established himself as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, as the former Eagles head coach is the only coach in NFL history to win 100 games and appear in four consecutive conference championships with two different franchises.
In addition to the potential of reaching a 5th-straight AFC Championship game, Saturday will also have some significance to read, as a victory will give him his 20th postseason win of all time, which would make him tied with Tom Landry. The only NFL coach that Reid trails is Bill Belichick, who currently has a whopping 31 playoff victories.
Heading into Saturday’s AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Jags, the Chiefs — who had a bye week last week thanks to their #1 seed in the conference — are nine-point favorites. As for the other AFC Divisional Round matchup, the Buffalo Bills will be hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon. The Bills are five-point favorites in that game.
Over in the NFC, the #1 seed Philadelphia Eagles will host their NFC East rival New York Giants on Saturday night before Dak Prescott and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys travel west to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday evening.
