Context of this article aside, my distaste for Kanye West is growing rapidly. Everytime one of his old, actually good songs come on — literally anything from his first four albums and Watch The Throne — when I’m at the gym or on a run, I can actually feel my blood pressure rise as I’m reminded of who Kanye used to be and what he is now.
That what is not a musical artist, but a con artist. I ranted and raved about it a couple of weeks ago after it became clear that he had zero intention of actually releasing the allegedly real Donda in concurrence with his Atlanta listening party. The dude showed up at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, pretended to be the Phantom of the Opera, sold some overpriced merch, and bounced. If that’s not a hustle, I’m not sure what is.Kanye is in Chicago now, gearing up for another con… erm, I mean scam, I mean heist, I mean listening party at Soldier Field, where he’s built a replica of his childhood home at the center of the field. Let’s not forget he’s also spent the week putting Drake’s address on the internet as he goes through his self-proclaimed Joker arc.
Speaking of that Chicago listening party, a report from the Chicago Tribune indicates that Kanye will not require proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test at the event, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 26. Because the venue is outdoors, the event is unaffected by Chicago’s indoor mask mandate. That said, only 38,000 people will be admitted, which is a little more than half of Soldier Field’s max capacity of around 63,000.
“Kanye West’s performance is one of many examples that show that Chicago can be open and safe at the same time,” Chicago Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons said. “We have worked with Soldier Field on COVID-19 safety protocols, as we have other venues including Wrigley and Guaranteed Rate Fields, and feel this event can be safely held with the proper mitigation efforts in place.”
