One of the most prominent bugs in the American justice system is that those among us who are wealthy stand a better chance in the courts than those who are not. Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, however, wasn’t able to wiggle his way out of a $1,500 fine for walking in the wrong direction.

According to reports, the 70-year-old Irish actor pled guilty to charges of stepping off a trail in a thermal area of Yellowstone National Park. The incident took place in November 2023.

The famed 007 actor got caught after he shared photos of his wayward adventure online.

Brosnan, who called into the court hearing in Mammoth, Wyoming, was fined $500 and ordered to make a $1,000 donation to Yellowstone Forever — a nonprofit organization that supports the park — by April 1, court records said. Prosecutors had recommended a $5,000 fine and a two-year probationary sentence.

A second petty offense, for violating closures and use limits, was dismissed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick. [via THR]

Brosnan can certainly afford the fine as he appeared in three films last year: The Out-Laws, Fast Charlie, and The Last Rifleman. This year, Brosnan is currently in production on two new films, Unholy Trinity and Four Letters of Love. He also recently starred as Doctor Fate in the ill-fated DC film Black Adam alongside The Rock.

In addition to starring in four James Bond films from 1995 to 2002 (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day).  Brosnan is also known for his roles in films such as The Fourth Protocol, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dante’s Peak, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Matador, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. He first rose to prominence in the mid-1980s as the lead of the hit NBC series Remington Steele.

The best-reviewed Bond film of Brosnan’s career was 1995’s GoldenEye, which was directed by Martin Campbell, who would go on to helm Daniel Craig’s debut as 007 almost a decade later with Casino Royale.

GoldenEye also launched the popular Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007. Widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential games ever made given the way it pioneered techniques and features such as atmospheric single-player missions, stealth elements, and multiplayer console deathmatch, GoldenEye 007 remains popular to this day, almost 30 years after its release.
