Bronny James continues to be a major storyline in the upcoming NBA Draft. While the USC guard isn’t expected to be selected over the first handful of picks, the fact that he’s LeBron James’s son has catapulted interest above nearly everything else surrounding the event.
That’s peeved more than a few sports viewers who believe the Bronny coverage has gotten out of hand. That’s certainly not something the soon-to-be rookie is unfamiliar with.
In a pre-draft interview with Sirius XM, James touched on a few things as he looks ahead to a professional career.
One was how he’s been negatively affected by that relationship throughout his amateur career. Whether it’s high school or college, it’s not always glamorous to be the son of the GOAT!
“It’s tough,” Bronny said of the vitriol spewed due to his family name. “A lot of criticism gets thrown my way. I’ve got to deal with it. No one knows what I’ve been through, but I just try to make the best of my opportunities.”

That’s undoubtedly evident when looking back at both his college recruitment and subsequent career.
Few gave credit to his basketball abilities after he landed five-star status as a high school player. Those same haters were quick to point out his 4.8-point scoring average as a true freshman while conveniently leaving out the fact that he played out of position just months after suffering a cardiac arrest on the court.
He just can’t win!
Negativity aside, he’s stayed focused, and now, he’s just weeks away from achieving his goal of getting drafted.
Bronny James says playing alongside his father isn’t the ‘main focus…’
But he will heed his old man’s advice at the next level!
He says no matter where he gets drafted, he’ll continue to be himself. It’s a method that’s worked to this point!
“It would mean a lot for sure, but that’s not my main focus right now”

On playing alongside LeBron:
“It would mean a lot, for sure, but that’s not my main focus right now. My main focus is to actually make it to the league. That’s just plus-points on top if I can share the court with my dad. It would be a great experience.”

On the advice his father’s given him throughout his career:
“Just be yourself. I feel like that’s what he’s driven into my head pretty well. I feel like it’s gotten me a long way, and I’m going to stand by that.”

Speculation remains on where James will land, and whether or not it results in a father-son package deal for the team that ultimately selects the guard. He’s not worried about the where; he’s just focused on the end result. He got off to a good start last week as he boosted his stock at the NBA Combine.
We’ll see how much it helped come late June!
