As UNC football looks ahead to next season, the Tar Heels’ social media team got creative with its 2024 schedule release on TikTok. It was a brilliant play on one of the most viral videos on the internet in recent months.
Social media personality Drew Walls first made waves online back in October by sharing an inside look at a day in his life.
However, in this particular instance, the only thing on his agenda was a trip to Target. His video is very in-depth. Overly so.
It begins with a shower and shows him get dressed out in his finest ‘fit to peruse the aisles of the retail store. Every little detail of the Target run is on camera — from parking to checkout.
Walls’ video drew just as much criticism as it did praise. Some people loved how he turned something so simple into content that actually warrants attention from start to finish. Others laughed at the lengths to which he went just to show him go shopping.
2.5 million people watched Walls go to Target. Thus, naturally, he had to run it back!
Walls’ second video drew more than 4.6 million views. His trips to Target are two of his three most-viewed videos and started a trend on TikTok.
Countless people followed in Walls’ footsteps and documented a mundane day in their lives online with a Drake track in the background.
This is where UNC comes into the equation!
The Tar Heels put a creative twist on the trend to share their schedule for the upcoming college football season. Every item that made its way into the cart related to the opponent in that week.
For example, devil’s food cake represents the Duke Blue Devils.
People who aren’t on TikTok enough to be familiar with the Walls-initiated trend will not be able to comprehend the brilliance of North Carolina’s video. It is the perfect way to capitalize on the algorithm, while providing a unique twist on an ongoing viral sensation.
Brilliant work from the social media team out of Chapel Hill!
