The Patriots have been giving their backup QB, Bailey Zappe, more action on the practice field this week following the Mac Jones benching last week, according to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero
Mac Jones is still holding the starter’s title, for now, but it seems like Coach Belichick wants to make sure Bailey’s ready in case things go haywire.
The Insiders on @NFLGameDay Kickoff: The #Patriots are sticking with Mac Jones. No change is immiment, but Bailey Zappe did get more practice snaps; No limitations on #Rams WR Cooper Kupp; #Colts RB Jonathan Taylor cashes in with three years and $42M, but he’ll be eased in today. pic.twitter.com/UI079arKbO

Last week’s game against the Cowboys wasn’t exactly a highlight reel for Mac Jones. He threw two picks, and one of them ended up being a free ride for the Cowboys all the way to the end zone. He also had a fumble that turned into another touchdown for Dallas. Leading to benching in the third quarter.
So far this season, Mac’s got five turnovers (interceptions/fumbles) versus five touchdowns. Not exactly a touchdown-to-turnover ratio that’ll win you the Super Bowl.
Now, the million-dollar question is, how long before Bill Belichick decides to switch things up? We’ll just have to sit tight and see how this quarterback drama unfolds.
