Just last week, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders laid into his team for its poor performance and behavior in the classroom.
It appears that Sanders’ son and the team’s starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, heard the message loudly and clearly.
In a new video on his YouTube channel, Sanders is shown attending his first in-person class since transferring to Colorado a year ago.
“Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve been to one in-person class?” Sanders says in the video after leaving the lecture hall.
Now, Sanders has been attending classes. Most of them have just been online.
But that’s nothing new for superstar athletes. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields never attended in-person class at Ohio State. While LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne couldn’t attend in-person class at one point due to her fame.
After receiving an email from an unhappy professor, Deion Sanders had the following to say to his players last week:
“You’re living in a land of, ‘What you want to do,’ because of your age… But guess what? You will progress into the land of, ‘What you’ve got to do.’
“I don’t want you to ever arrive at the place where you regret the things that you didn’t do… Right now, you’re taken care of. People [cook and clean] for you… When you take that next step, it’s going to get a little tight on you.
“We’re trying to prepare you.”
Was that the impetus for Shedeur Sanders attending class in person? It’s certainly possible.
Earlier this year, Deion spoke with former MLB teammate Bret Boone and talked about how much college has changed since he and Boone attended.
“It’s so different now man because most of the school is online,” Deion Sanders said. “Like, they go to classes and I’m like, ‘You guys are missing the best part of college − to be on campus, to walk around and build the atmosphere and build relationships on campus with other students outside of football.’ That’s the best part of it, but now you have so many kids, they’re just online. I don’t even know if Shedeur has partaken a class on campus in his college career.”
He makes a good point. Being on campus is one of the best parts. And it appears Shedeur wanted to get in on the action.
