Alabama and Tennessee have differing opinions on the song ‘Dixieland Delight.’ The Volunteers believe that it is a song about Tennessee. The Crimson Tide believes that it is a song about Alabama.
Nobody really knows the truth.
The band ‘Alabama’ performed the famous song. The song takes place in Tennessee.
It’s all very confusing.
Thus, it is ripe for Vols fans to mock the Crimson Tide for using ‘Dixieland Delight’ as one of the school’s most prominent anthems. That is exactly what they did on Saturday!
Sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s basketball defeated Alabama by 20 points on their home floor. Not long after the clock hit zero, a famous fiddle started to ring throughout Thompson-Boling Arena.
And then came the chants of ‘F— Bama!’
The song selection was obviously an attempt to establish dominance over the defeated visitors. It was a great success. Nate Oats and his team had to walk off of the court after a demoralizing loss while the victors serenaded them with their own song. Brutal.
On Saturday, it was no longer Alabama’s song. It was Tennessee’s.
But whose song is it really?! Nobody knows.
Dixieland Delight makes reference to “rollin’ down the backwoods, Tennessee byway,” and a “Tennessee Saturday night.” Alabama is the name of the band.
According to songwriter Ronnie Rogers, the song is actually set in Leipers Fork, Tenn. Wouldn’t that mean it is better suited for the Volunteers?
Perhaps. However, Rogers says that it is an homage to the South, which means that it is not specific to either state or either program.
Regardless of which school is better suited to claim Dixieland Delight, Alabama was forced to hand it over to Tennessee. The Crimson Tide lost the college basketball game and had to hear their rivals celebrate with their most famous anthem.
