Barring unforeseen circumstance, Caleb Williams is going to be one of the first three players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. It is unlikely that he will slip past No. 2. It is expected that he will go at No. 1.
This is where things get interesting. Chicago picks first. Washington picks second.
The Commanders need a quarterback.
The Bears may or may not. They have Justin Fields. There is going to be all kinds of conversation surrounding Williams’ NFL Draft future between now and April. They have already begun and it is going to get exhausting as it continues.
However, the most recent development is especially noteworthy.
Kliff Kingsbury, who spent last season as an analyst at USC, was hired as Washington’s new offensive coordinator after being linked to the same job with Las Vegas. Williams was/is thrilled with the hire.
He and Kingsbury are close. There is no doubt that the Heisman Trophy winner would love to keep that player/coach relationship on the pro level. Williams was also born and raised in Washington D.C.
In addition, there is a lot of smoke about Chicago. Caleb Williams may not be super thrilled to play there, though his camp is obviously denying any such claims.
Lincoln Riley set the record straight on Caleb Williams!
Williams does not have an agent as of this moment. Riley, who coached him at Oklahoma and USC, has been able to offer him some support throughout the process. The Trojans’ head coach is in frequent communication with his now-former quarterback.
Riley joined the Pat McAfee show on Monday and set the record straight about all of the chatter. He has talked to “quite a few” NFL organizations — more about Williams’ leadership than his on-field play.
Although a lot of the process is out of their control, Riley admitted that it would be cool to see his guy reunite Kingsbury. (He didn’t say whether Williams feels the same, but you can read between the lines.)
"We've talked to quite a few teams who wanna know about Caleb Williams and what kind of a leader he is..
It would be awesome to see him reunite with Kliff in Washington but we know there's a lot of things that will transpire before the draft" @LincolnRiley #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/uo8ayHGdNF

Riley later addressed all of the different headlines that have come out of “he said, she said” regarding Williams. Both in terms of where he wants to play, as well as the character concerns.
To Riley, none of it is real.
The information coming from “Caleb’s camp” is one thing. What he actually thinks and wants is another.
Williams “doesn’t care one bit” about what team drafts him because all he wants to do is win.
"All Caleb Williams cares about is winning & he wants to help a franchise be successful..
He's very low key about it all & the team he has around him is very low maintenance..
He's about the right things & he's gonna make an NFL team very happy" ~ @LincolnRiley #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/kCgeQn0sOy

Of course, Riley is on Williams’ side here and won’t say anything that could damage him. Maybe all of the reported leaks are actually real. USC’s head football coach says no.
Caleb Williams just wants to win!
