Take A Tour Of NYC’s Most Expensive Apartment On The Market, A $98 Million ‘White Box’ Dubbed ‘Le Penthouse’

For those who have experienced apartment hunting in New York City, I don’t need to tell you how poor it makes you feel. For those who haven’t, I paid $1,300 per month to live in a room that wasn’t even a room. It was converted into a room by a drunk contractor who threw up paper thin sheets of drywall that didn’t even reach the ceiling.

The walls were so thin my roommates heard my cry myself to sleep every night. It had no dishwasher, no eat-in kitchen, and I saw more mice scamper through that place than on the subway tracks at Grand Central station.

So, every time a place hits the market like Le Penthouse, I’m always fascinated that people can afford to live this way.

Le Penthouse is quintuplex penthouse at 172 Madison Avenue in Midtown that has just hit the market for $98 million.

Via Curbed:

The 19,815-square-foot property has five stories, 11 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, several fireplaces, a private roof deck with a pool and jacuzzi, and more than 3,500 square feet of overall outdoor terrace space. The over-the-top unit also boasts 18- to 32-foot-high ceilings and “nearly anything that money can buy and the mind can imagine is possible.”

Common charges for the apartment amount to $30,461/month and taxes per month will cost $51,269.

Oh yeah, the $98 million is just for the “white box,” as the apartment only comes with the rooftop infinity pool and Jacuzzi completed. Listing broker Raphael Sitruk of Keller Williams estimates that it will take another $5 million+ to make the box a home.
