This is kind of it for the Heat. Obviously, a series isn’t over until it’s over, but if the Celtics win three games in a row with home-court advantage in a potential game seven…..that’s not a winning formula for the Heat. So, expect the intensity for this game to be similar to said potential game seven. The Heat will be playing like their future depends on it. Because it very well may.
The Boston Celtics are slowly remembering how good of a team they were this year. Is it too little too late? Only time will tell, but I can’t explain why they waited until they were in a statistically impossible hole to begin playing like a basketball team. Jayson Tatum once again had a very solid game, but this time the Celtics didn’t win it with star power. Even though Jayson did have 21 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds it was Marcus Smart, Derrick White, and finally, Jaylen Brown learning to shoot again that opened this game up. Marcus Smart and Derrick White combined for 10 for 14 from three-point land in game five and that was honestly the difference-maker on offense. If D-White and Smart continue to be the second coming of the Splash Brothers then there is not much this Heat defense can do to stop them. I also was a huge fan of the way that the Celtics did this fun thing called playing defense. The Celtics had double the amount of steals and blocks that the Heat had. I mean it was a clinic on both ends of the ball. Let’s see if they can keep it up and give us basketball fans a Game 7.
The Heat were missing some scoring in game five. I don’t like to give excuses but it does hurt the Heat that one of their highest scorers in this series was trying to cheer them on on the bench. Jimmy Butler also had an uncharacteristically quiet night. He had 14 points, 5 boards, and 5 assists. He also only shot the ball 10 total times which is a steep decline from the wins where he was shooting 20+ shots per game. I don’t know if he was just choosing this Celtics home game as a breather to be able to get himself in the right space for game six, but hopefully, he figures it out. And also, what the heck happened to Bam? Why did he just fall off so hard in these playoffs? He had one good run, but he’s starting to be hated in Miami more than Dirk Nowitzki.
