College football fans were confused by something that took place early in the game between USC and Arizona State. A player was wearing two different jerseys, with two different numbers, at the same time.
Trojans rush end Jamil Muhammad began his career as a quarterback at Vanderbilt. However, upon arrival in Nashville, it was clear that he was the odd man out so Muhammad transferred to Georgia State.
The Panthers brought him in as a quarterback, but quickly asked him to switch positions.Although Muhammad wanted to play quarterback, he accepted the move and played the last three seasons at linebacker for Georgia State. The 6-foot-1, 250-pound redshirt senior transferred to USC with two years of eligibility remaining during the spring and immediately got to work in the weight room.
Back in June,
USC rush edge Jamil Muhammad wears No. 10, but college football rules require him to sometimes wear two numbers.
However, with about seven minutes left in the first quarter against Arizona State, he could be seen wearing two jerseys at the same time. Muhammad took off a No. 45 jersey to reveal No. 10.
The dual jerseys created a lot of confusion across social media.
I’m sure there is some kind of explanation for this, maybe something to do with duplicate numbers on the field at the same time… but I’m so confused why this dude is rocking 2 jerseys with different numbers on them @cjzero pic.twitter.com/RtLHslSwv8

The Trojans also get Muhammad in on special teams, but wide receiver Kryon Hudson also plays special teams and wears No. 10. There cannot be two players with the same number on the field at the same time.
USC does not have a player that wears No. 45. Thus, when Hudson and Muhammad are on the field at the same time, the latter wears No. 45 over his No. 10. And then when he’s back in on defense, Muhammad sheds No. 45 and goes back to his No. 10.
It is not an uncommon practice in college football, but it definitely looks pretty weird to see a player wearing two jerseys on the field at the same time!
