On his podcast, The Le Batard Show, Dan shared a lengthy statement about the passing of his brother.
“I don’t have a lot of experience with grief, but I had been grieving him for a year. “Because when he was diagnosed more than a year ago, he’s been steadily deteriorating since. And it’s been brutally, brutally hard to watch a poison eat him up from the inside and one of the biggest spirits I’ve ever seen consumed by illness.”
It’s a sad situation that has rocked the sports world. So much so, that everyone reached out and shared their condolences.

Ariel Helwani shared kind words.
I can’t believe this.
David was an unbelievably kind soul. Too nice, even. Just a very sweet, extremely talented man. He was a light for me in 2020 when he made the Helwani Boxing shirts. We had other plans, too. This is heartbreaking.
Love you, @LeBatardShow. Hang in there
