The first trailer for Flamin’ Hot, a movie about the creation of the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, has been released.
Flamin’ Hot is the feature film directorial debut of actress Eva Longoria, who is best known for her role in the 2000s ABC drama Desperate Housewives.
Here is the official synopsis of Flamin’ Hot, courtesy of Searchlight Pictures:
Flamin’ Hot is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia), the Frito Lay janitor who channeled his Mexican American heritage and upbringing to turn the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into a snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop culture phenomenon.
In addition to Jesse Garcia in the lead role of Richard Montañez, Flamin’ Hot stars Annie Gonzalez, Dennis Haysbert, Emilio Rivera, Tony Shalhoub, Matt Walsh, Pepe Serna, Bobby Soto, Jimmy Gonzales, Brice Gonzalez, Vanessa Martinez, Fabian Alomar, Mario Ponce, and Hunter Jones.
Flamin’ Hot will begin streaming in the United States on Hulu and Disney+ on Friday, June 9.
In addition to her role on Desperate Housewives, the 48-year-old Longoria is also known for her work on projects such as The Young and the Restless, The Sentinel, Over Her Dead Body, For Greater Glory, Frontera, Lowriders, Overboard, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Empire, Jane the Virgin, BoJack Horseman, and more.
While Flamin’ Hot is Longoria’s debut as a feature film director, she has plenty of experience directing television, having helmed episodes of series such as Devious Maids, Jane the Virgin, Telenovela, Black-ish, The Mick, LA to Vegas, Grand Hotel, The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, and Why Women Kill.
As for the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto, Frito-Lay records indicate that the product was created at the company’s Texas headquarters in 1989. In the late 2000s, however, Richard Montañez — the subject of the upcoming film — claimed he came up with the idea while working for the company as a janitor in the early 90s.
