Stephen A. Smith appears to still be annoyed with Monica McNutt after their viral exchange on ESPN’s ‘First Take.’
On Monday morning, Smith and the First Take crew debated the Caitlin Clark situation in the WNBA which led to Smith criticizing the WNBA veterans for roughing up Clark in her rookie season.
When McNutt rebutted by telling Stephen A. it was unfair for new fans to critique WNBA players, Smith responded by saying, “who talks about the WNBA, who talks about women, who talk about women’s sports more than First Take?”.
McNutt immediately fired back and said she felt Smith could have done more for the WNBA over the years, which left Smith in a state of shock on live television.
“With your platform, you could have been doing this 3 years ago if you wanted to,” said McNutt.
Stephen A. Smith: "Who talks about the WNBA, who talks about women, who talks about women's sports more than First Take?"
Monica McNutt: "Stephen A., respectfully, with your platform, you could have been doing this three years ago if you wanted to."

On his YouTube show, Smith went nuclear and implied that he had made McNutt and other WNBA commentators famous when he allowed them to appear on his show.
“You ever heard of Monica McNutt?….. you have now, because she’s on First Take a lot.”
I could care less about being going at me, I just want you to be accurate, and it is highly offensive to me when somebody implies or flat-out states like Monica McNutt did this morning, which was factually incorrect.
I challenge anybody to find a show on sports television that discusses women’s issues, that discusses the WNBA or women’s sports, that highlights or profiles female analysts more than First Take.
Stephen A basically just said he made these ladies famous….
“You ever heard of Monica McNutt?….. you have now, because she’s on first take a lot.”

Smith’s latest comments appeared to rub people the wrong way on social media.
See man. This that bullshit. Monica worked way too hard to get where she is for you to go on your platform and downplay her work @stephenasmith https://t.co/pr9NWCp7ge

Met Monica over a decade ago when we were at NBC Sports Washington (now @MonSportsNet), and anyone who’s seen any part of her journey knows how hard she’s worked to get here. It’s ridiculous to act like she popped cause of FT, and especially so for those who witnessed her grind. https://t.co/u947bRpCwo
