Charlotte Hornets Set To Interview Lindsey Harding For Head Coaching Vacancy

The Charlotte Hornets have been looking for the right direction for the franchise pretty much since their reformation in 2004-2005 as the Charlotte Bobcats. A franchise that has not won a single playoff series since their re-establishment might have to think outside the box on what they need to do to succeed.

Thinking out of the box would certainly include hiring a woman to be the head coach of an NBA team for the first time. The Charlotte Hornets might be the team to take that leap, as they will interview G League coach of the Stockton Kings, Lindsey Harding, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

This is not nearly as big of a leap as it would be in other sports. Many women have been assistant coaches with a lot of responsibility in the NBA before. Most notably, current Las Vegas Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon was San Antonio Spurs’ legendary coach Gregg Popovich’s head assistant and was with the franchise from 2014-2022.  She also underwent interviews with NBA teams for head coaching vacancies.

Harding was the G League Coach of the Year this year. The former Duke point guard was the first-overall pick of the Minnesota Lynx back in 2007, and played in the WNBA for nine seasons.

Recently, she served as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings for four years before moving to the G League team.

If she does get the Hornets job, she will have a young core dripping with potential with the likes of LaMelo Ball, Mark Williams, And Brandon Miller to work with.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford announced his resignation last week.
