Well, it happened. Oregon basketball is moving on to the Second Round of March Madness in unusual fashion. Virginia Commonwealth, its First Round opponents, have been forced to withdrawal due to COVID-19 concerns and the game will be ruled a no contest.
The NCAA released its protocols for an outbreak within any program, allowing teams to play without coaches or a bench, so long as it had five players to take the court.
Details have not been released, and they may never make their way out, but for VCU to be unable to field a starting five means that either the positive tests were rampant within the players and staff, or the Rams chose to bow out after losing a chunk of its team to the virus.This leaves a lot of questions unanswered and this story is developing.
