One Pittsburgh Steelers Receiver Might Not Be Happy About Who The Team Decided To Start At Quarterback This Week

This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have somebody other than Kenny Pickett starting at quarterback for the first time since Week 4.

Pickett suffered a concussion against the Baltimore Ravens last week and was replaced by Mitch Trubisky.

Unfortunately, Trubisky had a brutal outing for the Steelers, which led many to wonder if he would get the starting nod if Pickett wasn’t able to play this week.

All season long, the Steelers have had another option available to them they have yet to utilize. Mason Rudolph is still on the roster and has previously served as the team’s starting QB.

This week, Rudolph even got some support from the team’s star wide receiver. Diontae Johnson told the media that he wanted Rudolph to play this weekend.

It seems the Steelers have chosen not to listen to their star receiver as it was announced today the Trubisky will return to the starting lineup for tomorrow’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Johnson may be a bit disappointed not to see the quarterback he wanted getting the start this weekend, but the decision shouldn’t have much of an impact on his numbers against the Panthers.

Johnson still hasn’t scored a touchdown this season and his numbers have certainly dipped, but it certainly hasn’t been because Trubisky wasn’t trying to get him the ball early in the year. Trubisky absolutely peppered Johnson with targets in the season’s first three games, looking his way an average of 11 times per game. Last week Johnson had 8 targets.

It unfortunately hasn’t turned into big performances for Johnson, but it’s actually a few more targets per game than Johnson has averaged with Rudolph and he has posted similar yardage with both QBs.

It has been a difficult year for Diontae Johnson and it unfortunately seems like all he can do at this point is hope things get better next season with Kenny Pickett having a full year of experience under his belt.
