It has been a crazy week for Zach Wilson and his family. As a result, his jersey sale royalty checks may have seen a pretty significant spike.
Earlier this year, Wilson and his longtime girlfriend scrubbed their social media profiles of one another after a breakup. Not long thereafter, the second-year Jets quarterback was seen at a Yankees game with a famous TikTok model.
Last weekend, a photo posted to Instagram appeared to reveal that Wilson’s ex-girlfriend is now dating his (now former) best friend and roommate, Dax Milner. Milner and Wilson no longer follow one another on Instagram, indicating that they are no longer friends.
In response to the relationship hard launch, Wilson’s ex-girlfriend was accused of being a “homie hopper.”
That’s when things got really interesting.
Replying back to the accusation, Wilson’s ex claimed that the former No. 2 overall draft pick had slept with his “moms best friend.” She has since deleted her Instagram profile.
Although there is no clear answer as to the validity of the rumor, Wilson initially stayed quiet about the whole thing before he offered an amazing response. Meanwhile, during Zach’s silence, his mom Lisa issued a vicious warning to her followers on Instagram. She said that she doesn’t understand why people are so interested in her family and asked that the internet stop reaching out to her friends over the rumor.
It has been a crazy week for the Wilson family, but where there may have been negative press, the reaction to his ex-girlfriend’s accusation has been fairly positive in Zach’s favor. Especially in terms of jersey sales.
As the rumor and resulting drama reached its peak, interest in Zach Wilson’s jersey skyrocketed.
When you look at Google Trends over the course of the last week (July 8th through 15th), interest in Zach Wilson jerseys went from almost nothing to a lot. Interest in the jersey was especially high in Utah and New Jersey — Wilson is from Utah and plays for the Jets — as well as Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

There is no way to tell if any of the people who searched for the jersey actually purchased the jersey.
