LaNorris Sellers is already turning heads at South Carolina as he looks to push past the competition in the Gamecocks‘ quarterback room. Thus far, he’s done so, coming out of the spring as the team’s top option.
To celebrate, he made the short trip up to Darlington to take in some NASCAR.
Fittingly, he rocked a Ricky Bobby theme that further emphasized his QB1 status.“If you ain’t first, you’re last!” – LaNorris Sellers, probably.
The passer has had that mindset since stepping foot on campus a year ago, and it’s starting to show through ahead of his sophomore season in Columbia.
As a freshman, he saw limited action in a reserve role behind starter Spencer Rattler. Still, his talent was on full display in those handful of reps as he pumped excitement into Williams-Brice Stadium.
Per South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer – this is your QB1.

With Rattler now off to the NFL, the job is Sellers’ to lose.
Head coach Shane Beamer named his second-year star the squad’s No. 1 option on the depth chart just last week.
“Coming out of spring practice, LaNorris is our starting quarterback,”
In Year 1, Sellers threw for 86 yards and a pair of scores on 4-of-4 passing. He also added a rushing touchdown while averaging over 10 yards per carry on five attempts.
That dual-threat ability has many around the program, and to a lesser extent the national media, excited about his future under center.

LaNorris Sellers emphasized his newly gained QB1 status in fitting fashion.
The passer made his way to the track over the weekend to take in the sights and sounds of Darlington Raceway. In symbolic fashion, he repped a NASCAR themed outfit that emphasized that QB1 title.

“If you ain’t first, you’re last,” his shirt read, the classic line from the blockbuster Talladega Nights. Naturally, iconic character Ricky Bobby was positioned across the front.
That should read as both a celebration of the spring and a good sign for the future. Sellers has no intentions of falling down the depth chart, though Auburn transfer Robby Ashford is nipping at his heels.
Should the gunslinger continue working throughout the summer, the title shouldn’t change when the Gamecocks open their season against Old Dominion.
