Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Former UFC champion Conor McGregor and current boxing champion Canelo Alvarez are beefing.
This time the beef got fired up when McGregor re-posted a video of Floyd Mayweather beating up on Alvarez in their 2013 fight.
“One of the greatest performances in Professional Boxing this was,” Conor wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“I landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo.“I’d love another go,” he added.
One of the greatest performances in Professional Boxing this was. I landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo.
I’d love another go. https://t.co/Abfx7Pcpze— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA)
Canelo, after seeing McGregor’s comment,
Never one to back down from a Twitter, err, X fight, Conor McGregor
Techincally, Conor McGregor was incorrect. According to Compubox, he landed 111 of 430 punches against Mayweather, while Alvarez landed 117 of 526 punches versus Floyd.
There’s also the fact that Mayweather was 36-years-old and Alvarez was just 23 in their fight, while Floyd was 40-years-old and McGregor was 29 when they fought.
Of course, Conor McGregor (much like Nate Diaz) is probably just hoping his trash talk will result in a big payday if he were ever to actually fight Canelo Alvarez.
We’re going on seven years now since Oscar De La Hoya first suggested Conor and Canelo duke it out in the ring.
Two years later, De La Hoya did it again.
In 2020, Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso said he was open to boxing Conor McGregor, but nothing ever materialized.
Then again five months ago, Conor McGregor once again called out Alvarez.
“I’m a southpaw, [John] Ryder was a southpaw, Billie Joe [Saunders] was a southpaw,” Conor said.
“I’ve seen methods, I’ve seen things I’d do and I know he’s waning.
“I’d fight Canelo no f—— problem. No problem.”
Canelo, when asked about the comment from McGregor, said he hadn’t seen it, “but I’ll beat him with one hand behind my back.”
Conor McGregor then shot back with a now-deleted tweet.

After seven years of this nonsense, some fans wish these two would either fight or just shut up at this point.
