The Texas Longhorns added to an absolutely loaded 2023 recruiting class, and they’ll now have three different players that rank as the top at their position.
This week, it was announced that they’d be getting a pledge from a talented defender, moving their class up to No. 3 for the upcoming cycle.
Linebacker Anthony Hill, Jr.
made his commitment to the Longhorns on Thursday, posting a message on Twitter to signify the moment. Hill is rated as the top linebacker in the nation according to 24/7 Sports, as well as the 19th-best prospect regardless of position.— Anthony Hill Jr (@thegoatanthony1)
Hill now joins Arch Manning and Cedric Baxter, Jr. as No. 1 ranked players in the class. Manning will head to Austin as the top ranked signal caller following a highly publicized recruitment, while Baxter is the country’s top-rated running back, looking to fill the shoes of the departing Bijan Robinson.
It’s a huge get for Steve Sarkisian and Co. as they look to continue elevating the program. Sarkisian took over in 2021, leading the program to five wins. He bested that this past season with eight wins, though they’ve yet to truly live up to expectations.
Things will soon get more difficult, too, as they’ll make the transition to the SEC, possibly as soon as 2024.
Widely regarded as the nation’s top football league, the Southeastern Conference will present an even tougher test for the Longhorns.Despite having not won the Big 12 since 2009, fans believe this latest class will help position the program for an SEC title.
One person said, “I would love to see an OU vs Texas SEC championship in the future. Man that would drive people nuts.” Another wrote, “Get ready SEC.”
Of course, we’ve all seen Texas land highly rated recruiting classes in the past only to underperform. Many aren’t quite sold.
This fan commented, “They get top classes every year and none of them win a title.”
Maybe this group can break the mold.
