CDC Recommending No Gatherings Of More Than 50 People In The U.S. For Eight Weeks, Which Means No Sports For A Long Time

It seems like it’s going to be a while until we get to see live sports

This afternoon the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) called for the cancelation of in-person events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing,” the CDC said.

“When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.”

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses this recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

The CDC’s recommendation will likely push back the start of the NBA season until at least mid-May or June.

Vegas casinos have already begun closing which means the NFL draft is unlikely to take place in late April as scheduled.

This is a tough blow for sports fans but hopefully the CDC recommendations helps slowdown the spread of the coronavirus and we can get back to our normal lives in a few months.
