Joe Buck revealed an embarrassing detail about himself after Monday night’s NFL game. Following the Chiefs’ exciting 30-29 win over the division rival Raiders, Buck said he wears lifts in order to look taller when standing next to Troy Aikman in the booth.
The commentator was talking about an egregious roughing the passer penalty that was called on Kansas City earlier in the game.
Many disagreed with the call, including former VP of Officiating Mike Pereira, which caused a strip sack by defensive lineman Chris Jones to be overturned. When referencing the play, Buck noted that NFL quarterbacks are big, strong players. While they may appear smaller when lined up next to a linebacker or defensive end, they can still be difficult to bring to the ground.
He immediately pointed to his co-host, Aikman, who was a former NFL QB and stands 6-foot-4.
“These are big men that are playing quarterback. People meet me on the street, and they think I’m 5-foot-1. It’s because I stand next to him. I’m 6′ 1”. But I look 5′ 1″ on television.
“I’m wearing lifts. These are big people.”
Fans couldn’t help but run with the hilarious comment on social media.

Buck eventually got back to the topic at hand, which was the roughing the passer call, the theme of the weekend.
The Derek Carr penalty wasn’t the only egregious roughing the passer call we saw in Week 5. Tom Brady also benefitted from a questionable flag in the Bucs’ win over Atlanta on Sunday.
Obviously, the league is trying to protect its most prized players at the quarterback position, but there has to be a change to the rule after what we’ve seen take place this weekend.
