Steelers Fans Beg Mitch Trubisky To Throw To George Pickens, Who Says He’s Been Open ‘90% Of The Time’

There are no two ways to get around it. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has been miserable over the first two weeks of the season. After two games, the unit is averaging just 264 yards per game, and they’ve scored just two touchdowns.

The Steelers landed a season opening win over the Bengals thanks to a strong defensive performance.

But despite forcing five turnovers, Pittsburgh still needed overtime to take down Cincinnati.

In Week 2, it was more of the same as the Patriots landed a 17-14 win in the Steel City. The offense didn’t find the endzone until the fourth quarter of play.

Much of the blame has fallen on new signal caller Mitch Trubisky, who’s completed just 59% of his passes and is averaging 181 yards per contest. And based on some comments from a rookie wide receiver, it’s not for a lack of the offense’s playmakers getting open.

First-year wideout George Pickens took some time with the media this week to discuss some of the offensive issues that have plagued the Steelers this season.

“I’d say [I’ve been open] about 90 percent of the time. I say that because I am a big guy who runs low 4.4s. I am always going to have a step.

“I feel like everybody is, too. It’s not just me. They’re getting to the right spots as well… It’s just gonna take time.”

Pickens feels that the offense just needs a bit more time to get in sync. After all, this is a group of players that’s relatively new to one another, most notably, Trubisky.

But patience isn’t always a strong quality of NFL fans. Many are bashing their new quarterback for not being able to find the open man.

This fan notes the pass catching production thus far in Pittsburgh, saying, “The Matt Canada-Mitch Trubisky offense is where receivers go to die.”

Another supporter spoke on the chemistry that Trubisky and Pickens seemed to have during the preseason, which disappeared when the regular season began.

“Now he doesn’t even look his way.”

Trubisky said he plans to give Pickens more opportunities this week in Cleveland, though Steelers fans will believe it when they see it.

“Mitch Trubisky said last week his goal was to get George Pickens more involved in the offense. Pickens had one catch for 23 yards on three targets today. After today’s loss, Trubisky says his goal is to get Pickens more involved. We’ll see…”

The leash appears to be getting shorter for Pittsburgh’s new signal caller, but there’s still time to turn things around. The Steelers will look to land a second divisional win when they face the Browns on Thursday Night Football.

Hopefully, Pickens and the other Pittsburgh wideouts are heavily involved.
