There is not a more polarizing figure in sports, maybe ever, than LeBron James. It seems like half of sports fans love him, and half hate him, even if we all agree he’s an all-time great. But, at nearly 39 years old and in his 21st season in the NBA, there’s no denying it: LeBron James has still got it.
He’s been proving that all year long. But, in case you were doubting it, you shouldn’t be after his ridiculous performance in the NBA In-Season Tournament Semifinals in a blowout, 128-119 win over the Pelicans.
LeBron was unreal in Las Vegas Thursday night. He had 30 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Pretty good stat-line, right?
Yeah, he did all of that in just 23 minutes and on only 12 shot attempts, and he had zero turnovers. Absolutely insane.
And, let me remind you, he’s doing this while having 21 years of NBA basketball of wear and tear on his body, and has played more minutes than anyone ever has. Yes, some NFL quarterbacks are starting to play into their 40s with success, and they have wear and tear, too. But, it’s not the constant pounding on the joints and muscles that 82-game NBA regular seasons are.
There wasn’t much that he did wrong on Thursday night, and when LeBron is feeling it from deep like he was on Thursday, there’s nothing anyone can do to defend him. Take a look at this sequence.

The Lakers are now 14-9, good for fourth in the Western Conference so far. And, LeBron is straight-up carrying them. On the year, he’s averaging 25 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game while being one of the most efficient scorers in the league. The NBA hasn’t seen anything anywhere close to these kinds of numbers out of a soon-to-be 39-year-old.
So, whether you love LeBron, or love to hate him, enjoy him in these final few years in his career. We may never see anything like it at his age ever again.
The Lakers will take on the Indiana Pacers in the finals of the NBA In-Season Tournament on Saturday from Las Vegas.
