Things Get Awkward When Jets’ Robert Saleh Gets Asked Why Hasn’t Benched Zach Wilson ‘I’m Going To Plead The Fifth’

It appears that Jets QB Zach Wilson is on the hot seat.

On Monday night, Wilson put up a stinker of a game in a loss against the Chargers, which led to Troy Aikman crushing the Jets offense during ESPN’s broadcast.

During his weekly radio appearance on the Michael Kay show, Saleh was asked about why the Jets hadn’t considered benching Wilson in favor of Trevor Sieman, and he didn’t really give Wilson a vote of confidence.

Michael Kay: “You’ve got Trevor Siemian in your building,” “Why not give him a try?”

Robert Saleh: “I gotcha,” “Again, fair question. Like I said. I don’t know. I’m gonna plead the fifth on this one in terms of just — I’ve kind of explained it. Respectfully, obviously. “They’re valid questions. I know from a passionate fan, from fans who are passionate all having the same questions, I respect it greatly.”

Saleh didn’t lay the entire blame of the team’s offensive struggles on Wilson during his postgame press conference on Monday.

“It’s one of those bizarre games. Every time we had momentum, just a self inflicted wound,” Saleh said. “Was it his best game? Obviously not. Was it his worst game? No, I’m not going to say it was even close to his worst game. The entire offense, obviously, we all could have been better.”

If the Jets continue to struggle, it does sound like Saleh might end up making a move at the QB position to shake things up.
