Title Of Brad Pitt’s F1 Movie Has Been Revealed, Filming To Take Place At British Grand Prix

Obviously not letting himself be content with simply making one of the most successful movies of all time in last summer’s Top Gun: Maverick, director Joseph Kosinski is following up that film with a massive Formula One drama that’s set to star Academy Award-winning actor Brad Pitt.

Reportedly titled Apex, the film sees Pitt — who most recently had roles in Babylon and Bullet Train, both of which hit theaters last year — starring as “a veteran F1 driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and compete alongside a rookie driver, played by Snowfall star Damson Idris, against the titans of the sport.”

It’s certainly the perfect time for a flashy Formula One-focused film as the sport has seen a boom in popularity in recent years, particularly in the United States, due to the Netflix documentary Drive to Survive, which has attracted thousands of new fans to the sport. The problem that F1 currently faces, however, is Red Bull and driver Max Verstappen are seemingly doing away with any sense of parity in the sport.

Kosinski is also set to utilize the ultra-immersive style of filmmaking that he used in Top Gun: Maverick, as production on Apex will begin on-site at this weekend’s British Grand Prix. In fact, a new technology that’s never been used in a movie before was developed for the project, as the smallest moveable 6k camera ever made will be placed inside of the drivers’ cockpits.

In addition to Pitt and Idris, Apex is also set to star recent Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and former Game of Thrones star Tobias Menzies. While the film does not have an official release date, it’s expected to hit theaters next year before eventually landing on AppleTV+ as its permanent home.

Kosinski’s Apex isn’t the only movie that the Oscar winner has in the works, as he’s also in production on the Jon Watts-directed AppleTV+ film Wolves, which also stars George Clooney.
