Jim Nantz has covered a number of different sports during his lengthy and legendary career, but he’s arguably the voice of golf. I genuinely look forward to his soothing commentary at The Masters every year, and it’s impossible not to be jealous of a guy at Pebble Beach who got a once-in-a-lifetime experience after being graced by the presence of the broadcaster.
You probably won’t be shocked to learn Nantz is a big fan of golf—and by “big” I mean he got married on the 7th hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links and constructed a miniature replica of the downhill par-3 in the backyard of the house he owns near the course.
“Near” the course is kind of an understatement, as Nantz basically lives right across the street from the tract that’s routinely listed as the best public golf course in the United States.
It’s hard to blame him for taking advantage of that close proximity, and it appears he has a habit of doing exactly that based on a viral video of his incredible interaction with a guy who was playing the course.
The 7th hole at Pebble Beach is a short one featuring a steep drop to a green located right next to the Pacific Ocean, and it can be a pretty imposing sight.
There’s already plenty of inherent pressure, so I can’t even imagine what it feels like to step up to the ball while Jim Nantz takes a break from sipping his coffee during what appeared to be a morning stroll in order to narrate the shot while standing behind the tee box.
@jdprogolf Just a quick cbs coverage of this casual round of golf at Pebble Beach. Thankyou again Mr. Nantz #golf #pro #titleist #highsoftshanks #pebblebeach #jimnantz
Thankfully, the guy was able to rise to the moment with the “good-looking golf swing” that helped him plop the ball right in the middle of the green.
It doesn’t get much cooler than that.
