Parts of California have been pummeled by devastating rain and flooding caused by an atmospheric river in the region. Footage of Monterey golf course damage from courses throughout the Monterey peninsula reveals just how devasting the storms were.
‘Atmospheric River’ is another one of these terms, like ‘Bomb Cyclone’, that used to be reserved only for meteorologists.
But it’s a term a lot of people are learning and using because atmospheric rivers are expected to cause an increase in both the frequency and severity of flash flooding events on the West Coast in coming years. The Monterey Peninsula is home to one of the most famous golf courses on the planet, Pebble Beach. Just a 2.5 mile/6 minute drive down the road is the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, one of the three courses used in the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
This footage of Monterey golf course damage has gone viral on TikTok as it shows the extent of these storms in a very easy way to understand for people who aren’t out there. Golf courses are pristine, perfectly manicured, and not like this at all:

There are obviously larger concerns that the moment, like damage to homes from flash flooding, but the PGA Tour is scheduled to arrive at Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on February 2nd, less than a month away.
