Caleb Williams Shuts Down Talking Head Who’s Worried He Hasn’t Faced Any Adversity

There’s little doubt Caleb Williams will be the top overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t critics who are focused on pointing out potential shortcomings. That includes Greg McElroy, who received a pretty convincing response from the QB after claiming he’s never faced any real adversity.

Caleb Williams was the presumptive No. 1 pick in this year’s draft before the most recent college football season kicked off, and while it was unclear what the Bears would decide to do when they ended up with the top selection, they essentially confirmed their plans to scoop up the USC star after trading Justin Fields to the Steelers last month.

We’ll obviously have to wait and see if Williams will cement himself as the franchise quarterback Chicago is obviously hoping he’ll become, but the dual-threat Heisman winner is absolutely overflowing with potential and seems more than poised to take the NFL by storm once he takes his game to the next level.

With that said, there are some concerns with his game, which primarily revolve around his tendency to try to be the hero while taking unnecessary risks with the potential to come back to bite him and his team.

However, ESPN’s Greg McElroy—who can technically say he played quarterback in the NFL after appearing in two games for the Jets in 2012—recently asserted he’s identified another potential red flag

over the course of his college career.

During a recent conversation with Kevin Clark, McElroy made it clear he thinks Williams is a talented prospect but suggested he could be heading into the NFL with a “sense of entitlement” and lacking the “chip on the shoulder aspect” he claims unites elite QBs who’ve harnessed it for motivation.

It’s a bit of a stretch to argue that’s really an intangible worth focusing on, but Williams nonetheless decided to debunk the narrative in a tweet where he channeled his inner middle school student by kicking off his post with the definition of adversity before highlighting the multiple times he did, in fact, face it when he was in college.

That should settle that.
