With USC’s shocking blowout loss to Utah in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday night, the TCU Horned Frogs may have secured their first-ever bid to the College Football Playoff.
The third-ranked Horned Frogs entered Saturday’s Big 12 title game against Kansas State at 12-0. TCU topped the Wildcats 38-28 in their regular-season meeting.
And even with a loss, the Horned Frogs figure to grab the fourth and final playoff spot. But that’s far from a sure thing.
The Horned Frogs were in a similar situation in 2014. They entered the conference championship week ranked third in the country at 11-1. But in that year, the Big 12 did not have a title game. Ohio State blew out Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship game and jumped the Frogs, who fell all the way to No. 6 behind Big 12 co-champ Baylor.
So TCU fans have some reason to be concerned.
The Horned Frogs looked strong early on against the Wildcats, taking a 7-0 lead. But Kansas State hit back, tying it at 7-7 late in the first quarter on a 6-yard touchdown pass on fourth down.
But the play should have never happened.
Clearly false start by Kansas State. TCU already getting screwed. pic.twitter.com/WLNwIVZk1d

Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott, who caught the touchdown pass, clearly false-started prior to the play.
Had it been called, the Wildcats would have faced fourth-and-6 and may well have kicked the field goal.Instead, it was not spotted, and fans were absolutely fuming.
Clearly cheating then the man went and scored a tud

You can’t miss these in championship games. Apparently the best officials get the big and best games, right? Horrendous job by the refs. #Big12Championship https://t.co/bYyMzE6oTY

How the hell did they miss that false start? lol

Everyone in the fucking stadium saw that false start except the refs

Kansas State then continued the momentum and took a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter on a QB sneak by Will Howard.
The Horned Frogs are probably playoff bound either way. But they may want to make sure to win this one. Y’know, just to be safe.
