There’s news for Patriots fans as it seems the team’s offense is underperforming under new unofficial offensive coordinator Matt Patricia.
For most of the offseason, Bill Belichick has had a tough time choosing a replacement at offensive coordinator for Josh McDaniels, who is now the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
According to reports, Belichick has finally made the decision to allow Matt Patricia to take over the playcalling duties.
As Matt Patricia has called the vast majority of Patriots offensive plays in training camp — with Joe Judge and Bill Belichick occasionally working in — the continued expectation is for Patricia to be the play caller/de facto OC once the season starts, according to a source.

Unfortunately for Patricia, the team is struggling badly on offense, and some reporters have said the offense is completely broken.
Patriots defense is running roughshod over the offense. Highlights for that side were “sacks” by Christian Barmore and Matt Judon during a third-down period.

Patriots No. 1 offense today has been distressingly bad. Run stuffs. Aborted plays. Would-be sacks. Distress lobs into traffic just to get ball out. Beginning to feel it’s less the new offense and more the post-Scar cycle of OL coaches. They are perpetually overwhelmed.

Mac Jones took the first 20 reps in 11-on-11 drills, staying in even after the Patriots rotated out their O-line regulars. And it's been ugly.
A quarter of those reps resulted in a sack (4) or a scramble (1), and all six completions were within a few yards of the LOS.
