The New York Jets lost the battle to the Kansas City Chiefs last night, but thanks to the play of quarterback Zach Wilson, they might have actually made some headway in a more important war: making Wilson a legitimate NFL quarterback.

While the Jets fell to the Chiefs by a score of 23-20 on Sunday night, Wilson inarguably played the best game of his NFL career thus far, as he outplayed Patrick Mahomes to the tune of completing 28 of 39 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

Perhaps more important than his physical play, though, was the attitude that the young quarterback displayed.

Last season, if you’ll recall, Wilson basically lost his job after shirking all responsibility following a pitiful loss to the New England Patriots. This year, however, cameras caught Wilson taking direct responsibility for the loss.

After the game, Wilson said something similar while speaking to reporters, again stating that he “lost the game” for the team.

“This team is sacrificing a lot. Guys are making plays, the defense is making plays, O-line was protecting. To be driving right there and to drop a snap, I cannot do that. I lost us that game and I cannot do that,” he said.

Despite the fact Wilson’s 4th quarter fumble ultimately led to the Chiefs kicking a game-winning field goal, his teammates were quick to pick him up off the floor and give him props for how he played. Even LeBron James took to social media to

.

Wilson’s contrition wasn’t the only element of last night’s game to

, as some bizarrely distasteful postgame comments from Rodney Harrison put even more people in the third-year signal-caller’s corner.

Now sitting at 1-3, the Jets face the prospect of a must-win game against the Denver Broncos this weekend if they want to maintain any hope of making the playoffs.
