Any of us that have played golf can all point to the luckiest shot they’ve ever hit. Maybe it was a ball that was headed over the green and hit the flagstick, or a lucky bounce off a cart path, or a ball that hits a tree in the woods and ricochets out in the fairway.
Odds are, none of us have hit a shot as lucky as the one that amateur Jasmine Koo hit at the Chevron Championship, one of the LPGA’s five major championships.
Koo, a high schooler off to USC next fall, was playing the par-5 18th hole in her final round on the cusp of a top-20 finish. After finding the fairway, she elected to take on the flag, which would require carrying the ball over water.
Unfortunately, she did not hit her best shot, and the ball was going to come up well short of carrying the water. But, the Chevron floating advertisement gave her an incredible assist. Take a look.
Never seen that before!

Oh, come on. There’s no way that happened! Koo would pitch on and make a birdie putt for a ho-hum birdie 4. That took her to -3 for the tournament, and she was low amateur with a finish of T13.
The big downside for Koo is that, surely, the golf gods will get their revenge for being cheated like this at a later date.
Also, she can’t accept prize money, but she can accept NIL deals, and this seems like a layup for Chevron to get her an NIL deal!
LPGA superstar Nelly Korda won the tournament, her fifth-straight win and second major championship, winning by two shots at -13.
