According to Sports Illustrated, the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association terminated Marbury’s contract in April, after Starbury led the team to CBA championships in 2012, 2014, and 2015 and is widely considered the greatest foreign player to ever play in the CBA. Marbury is such a mega-celebrity in China that he has received the title of honorary Beijing citizen, his own series of stamps and even a statue outside the Ducks’ arena.

Last year, he became the first foreign celeb ever to receive a Chinese green card. He has attributed his success in China to the Chinese culture which he described as one “filled with love, compassion, and care.”
Marbury, who has played pro in China since 2010, is coming off a year in which he averaged 21.4 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 36 games. He has not played in the NBA since a stint Boston Celtics during the 2008-09 season, when he averaged a modest 3.8 PPG in 23 games.
In anticipation for Stabury’s return, Imma cop some of the only basketball shoes I can afford these days.
