Former hockey goaltender Mikayla Demaiter has gone from playing pro hockey in the PWHL to a full-time Instagram model, and she’s thriving.
Three years ago, Demaiter was forced to change careers after suffering a devastating knee injury that ended her hockey dreams.
Demaiter said goodbye to hockey in an emotional post on Instagram in 2020.
“Dear Hockey, It is time to say goodbye. It is time to turn the page and move to the next chapter of my life, for the first time you will not be my number one focus.
“I am excited for the future because everything you have taught me will allow me to succeed. There will still be early mornings, new adventures and new friends, and I hope that I embrace them with the same love and passion I did for you.”
Fast forward three years, and Mikayla is an internet sensation with over 1.6 million Instagram followers.
