Tommy Fleetwood’s Local Fill-in Caddie Earns Life-Changing Money After Fleetwood Has Great Week

For years, only the local caddies were allowed to be on the bag at The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. That changed in 1983, but local caddie Gray Moore had a taste of the old tradition.

Tommy Fleetwood’s regular caddie, Ian Finnis, had to step away just days before the tournament started. With all of the other top loopers already having assignments for the week, Fleetwood decided to go with longtime ANGC caddie Gray Moore at The Masters.

Now, I’m sure life as a caddie at ANGC isn’t so bad. Caddying for some of the world’s richest people all of the time must result in some pretty good tips. But, I am nearly certain that Gray Moore has never had a tip like the one that he will get for this week.

“Tommy Fleetwood used Augusta National caddie Gray Moore this week. He posted his best-ever finish at the Masters. Currently T4. That would pay $880,000. Assuming the normal(ish) 8% of a top-10 finish, Moore would take home $70,400. That’ll do just fine,” golf media personality
Is $70,000 going to set someone up for life? No, absolutely not. Is it going to put a huge dent into someone’s mortgage, pay off their car, or boost their retirement fund? Absolutely. That’s a choice Gray Moore will have to make, but one I’m sure he’s happy he gets to make.
As for Tommy Fleetwood, it was his best finish in the Masters. I wonder if he will enlist Gray Moore next year!
