‘College Football 25’ Reportedly Taking Unique Approach To Picking A Cover Athlete

There are still plenty of questions concerning what we can expect from the highly-anticipated video game EA Sports has dubbed College Football 25, but a new report asserts the developer is taking a somewhat unconventional approach when it comes to picking the cover athlete.

It’s been more than 10 years since the release of the last installment in the NCAA Football franchise, which featured former Michigan quarterback-turned-NFL running back Denard Robinson on what would turn out to be the final cover of a beloved series that could trace its roots back to the early 1990s.

EA Sports ultimately decided to abandon the games due to the Supreme Court ruling that determined it had illegally harnessed the name, image, and likeness of college players. Robinson and the cover athletes who preceded him did receive compensation, but they were only able to do so because they’d already taken their talents to the NFL by the time the game came out.

Things have obviously changed now that we’ve entered the NIL Era, and College Football 25 has taken advantage of that new reality by offering deals to the more than 10,000 players who’ve already agreed to be included in the game in exchange for $600 and a free copy.

Nobody has done a better job of keeping tabs on the latest developments than Matt Brown, who once again delivered when the latest installment of his Extra Points column dropped on Monday.

It was safe to assume EA Sports was going to target a current player to appear on the cover of College Football 25, and while it sounds like that’s technically the approach that’s going to be harnessed, Brown reports it will actually feature multiple players who are slated to grace the cover of the various editions that will be released.

While the identities of the players in question remain unclear, they will purportedly each hail from a different P5 conference and represent a unique position. There’s a chance more information comes out when we’re treated to the reveal event that’s slated to transpire at some point in May, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
