Based on Google search, 2017 was the year of the iPhone X, Matt Lauer, Tom Petty, and the fidget spinner. The most popular Google search in 2017 was Hurricane Irma in the United States and around the world. On Wednesday, Google revealed their most-searched lists of 2017, which included the top people, movies, sports teams, songs, tech, memes, diets, and questions.
Matt Lauer made the most-searched category and was named the top person searched on Google, but for all of the wrong reasons after NBC fired him from the Today show over sexual harassment allegations. Lauer wasn’t the only celebrity accused of sexual harassment to be a top-search on Google, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey were also heavily googled in 2017. Rock music icon Tom Petty, who died this year, was named to the top-searched list of people and was the most-searched on the celebrity death list.
