Bryant basketball coach Jared Grasso took a leave of absence from the program late last month, though a reason was not given. A few days later taking that leave, an alleged hit and run was reported, with the coach being linked for his potential involvement.
Body cam footage from his interview with police has now been released, and it’s bizarre, to say the least.
The coach is heard talking in circles, attempting to ramble his way out of trouble, even going as far as to ask the cop to shoot some jumpers in the driveway.Bryant released a statement on the head coach in late September:
“On September 27, Bryant University placed head basketball coach Jared Grasso on a leave of absence from coaching duties. He remains suspended from all university-related duties and restricted from campus while Bryant continues its external investigation.”
On October 1, days after that absence was revealed, the coach was arrested on a hit and run charge.
Reports of a car accident arose, with Grasso being linked to the incident. In that report, a vehicle fitting the description of Grasso’s allegedly side swiped another automobile, then fled the scene.
While the initial leave of absence doesn’t seem to be related to the accident, the situation doesn’t look good for the head coach.
Body cam footage was released this week showing Grasso’s interview with police after that crash.
Grasso is all over the place in the conversation, frequently dropping his status as head basketball coach. He also bounces around between whether or not he was actually driving the vehicle, seemingly making up a story about the car being hit while parked at a restaurant.
The more you listen, the wilder it gets.
Grasso later says he’s being attacked by “the situation,” attempting to assume the role of victim.
“There’s kind of a funky deal going on right now'” he says. “I don’t know if you’re aware of what’s taking place. There’s a little bit of an attack going on and this is going to turn into kind of a – this isn’t a good thing.”
The coach then strangely asks the cop to shoot jumpers mid-interview.
You have to listen to the full video to get the full understanding of just how bizarre it is, but ultimately, he wasn’t able to talk his way out of the charge.
Grasso was booked on the misdemeanor.
