The Lakers came out firing in game one and were able to steal the opening game of the series from the Grizzlies on the road. It was a team win for Los Angeles, who had five players score over 19 points. Rui Hachimura led the Lakers in scoring off of the bench with 29 points to go along with six rebounds. The Grizzlies can’t be happy about their performance in this one. They only got 18 points from Ja Morant, and the whole team looked like a shell of the team they were all year.
Coming into this series, the Grizzlies depth looked like their biggest advantage coming into this series, and the Lakers support staff completely outplayed them. The Grizzlies will need production from their wings to take some of the pressure off of Morant for the rest of this series.
The Lakers showed their ability to hang with Memphis, but the Grizzlies can take back control of this series with a win in game two. Getting more from Desmond Bane, and Dillon Brooks is going to be key to winning game two.
Memphis should be concerned that they lost by so much with LeBron seemingly not breaking a sweat. All season the Grizzlies have been incredibly cocky. They’re the loud 21-year-olds at the bar and they just bothered the old man quietly minding his business on the other end. The Grizzlies better figure out a way to play their game, because if LeBron flips a switch and starts playing out of his mind, they will have their hands full.
The Grizzlies should come out with more energy in the next game, but the Lakers have shown that they have the talent to make this series a battle. This series can go either way, but the Grizzlies will be desperate in game two. Pick Memphis in this one.
