Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate and a class act. His character was on full display following a dominant win at N.C. State on Saturday.
Hartman, who is playing his sixth season of college football at 24 years old, transferred from Wake Forest during the offseason in hopes of leading the Fighting Irish back to the promise land.
He has looked spectacular thus far.Notre Dame is 3-0 through its first three games and Hartman boasts a 75% completion clip while throwing for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns without an interception on 48 completions. Those numbers don’t even include a large chunk of time spent on the sideline at the end of three-straight wins by three touchdowns or more.
Perhaps it is Hartman’s raw talent, perhaps it is his growth as a quarterback. Or, perhaps it is the necklace he wears around his neck that is made from his own rib bone.
Whatever it is, Hartman is on fire. And he’s having a lot of fun along the way.
Sam Hartman is a class act.
To say that Hartman was fired up after beating the Wolfpack during an afternoon of insane weather on Saturday would be an understatement. He was pumped.
However, in his excitement, the Notre Dame signal-caller made sure not to disrespect his opponent.
A group of Irish faithful gathered by the visiting tunnel after the game and greeted players as they went back to the locker room. Hartman was one of the last guys off of the field.
North Carolina State’s band started to play the university’s alma mater right as Hartman was ready to exit the playing field. Rather than running into the tunnel and causing a disruption, he waited patiently for the band to wrap before making his exit.
He didn’t have to wait. There was nobody telling him to do so.
Hartman took it upon himself to show well-deserved respect to his opponents. Pretty cool move from one of college football’s best quarterbacks.
