Just like the Lakers’ overall season, the Russell Westbrook experiment in Los Angeles has been a disaster. The Lakers are on the verge of missing out on the playoffs and it’s no secret that the current roster needs a major shakeup in order to find success in years to come.
The Lakers aren’t going to look to trade away LeBron James, so that leaves Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook as two players the team could look to move. Trying to deal Westbrook is the clear and obvious choice given his poor play and massive price tag.
ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst agrees that Westbrook has to go and he explained why by taking a pretty vicious shot at the point guard.
The Lakers need to trade Westbrook in exchange for “any three breathing players,” according to Windhorst.
“He’s got to be traded for any three breathing players,” Windhorst Twitter
on Thursday’s edition of ‘Get Up.’ “Hewill be an expiring contract, and that will actually have some value. Go to a team that needs to clear some money off of their cap.”
The Lakers Moving Westbrook Will Be A Challenge
Saying someone should be traded in exchange for any other player as long as they literally have a pulse is about as bad as it gets, but that’s how bad the situation is with Westbrook in L.A.
Finding a team that will trade anyone, let alone three players, in exchange for Westbrook may be quite difficult for the Lakers.
Westbrook is set to make $47 million next year, the final year of his supermax deal. Trading for a 33-year-old that isn’t playing anywhere close to that dollar figure could be an extremely tall task.
