New Renderings Of A’s Baseball Stadium In Las Vegas Resemble Iconic 20th-Century Landmark

Athletics A's Las Vegas Baseball Stadium

The Oakland Athletics are less than five years away from moving to Nevada. They will be the Las Vegas Athletics as soon as 2028 after receiving approval from MLB owners in November.

Although it is a real shame that one of the most iconic franchises of the last 50 years is going to undergo such a significant rebrand in a city that is not known for its passionate fanbases, having professional sports in the gambling capital of the world is a lot of fun.

Especially when there is a lot of money being pumped into the organization.

Everything about the “new” Major League Baseball team is going to be tricked out to the nines, including the stadium. Oakland revealed new renderings of its future ballpark in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon and it looks pretty incredible.

The entire field will be completely covered, including seats in the grandstand and the outfield bleachers. However, the world’s largest cable-net glass window in centerfield reveals the skyline.

Construction is slated to begin in April 2025 on the site of the Tropicana hotel, which will close next month. 2,500 parking spots will be included on site.

The interior of the stadium is catered to the fan. 33,000 seats will be tiered to improve sight lines. An 18,000-square-foot LED scoreboard will display on the ceiling, which will be the largest in the league.

As for the exterior, it bears a striking resemblance to one of the most iconic 20th-century landmarks. The fixed roof with overlapping layers makes it look like Sydney Opera House.

As funky as it might look, the tiered roof is intentional. All direct sunlight will be blocked, while all of the soft daylight will wash the field with natural light.

Unfortunately, Oakland took the coward’s way out with its post. The team turned off its replies before sharing the new renderings to social media to avoid all of the inevitable hate. That’s lame!
