Football Is Finally Back At The University of Alabama-Birmingham – Here’s How It Happened

Once upon a time, college football thrived at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Sure, they weren’t big time National Title powerhouse or ranked in a major conference, but the program successfully gave birth to a number of NFL careers — Eddie Freeman, Pernell Davis, Roddy White.

Unfortunately, budget cuts sent the program to an early grave — The athletic department budget wrapped into the greater athletic budget down in Tuscaloosa, where the powers at be slashed UAB’s program in favor of that other big Alabama football team.

UAB wasn’t just going to bow to the alter of Nick Saban, so the school started a fight for autonomy. In the video above, we take a look at how the program bounced back from the ashes, bringing Blazer football back to Birmingham.
